A hands-on build kit where kids connect real circuits to create a working motion-sensing alarm from scratch. Plug in the modules, wire up the components, and the sensor triggers a real alert.
The SpyX DIY Motion Alarm is the build that explains how spy gadgets actually work, and then proves it.
Wire it up, then watch it work. The DIY Motion Alarm is a hands-on STEM kit that teaches kids to build a real motion-sensing spy gadget from the ground up.
I ordered this for my 7yo and all the kids ended up being interested in it. my 12 and 10yo hovered around the kitchen table and helped him the entire time; otherwise I am almost certain an adult help would have been needed. It works and the alarm is loud. The kids think it's a hoot!
My 11 year old was very annoyed that the box says ages 6 years and up. The wiring is clearly not for 6-year-olds. I did find wiring the springs fairly intuitive as an adult but would not expect a kid to be able to set this up on his own. It was actually easier than I expected once I analyzed the instructions. The motion detector works very well and detects from a good distance. This set is definitely a good showcase of technology. I would call it a mini kids Arduino board without the programming. Well maybe Arduinoesque.
Purchased for my nephew for Christmas and this was his favorite gift. He did most of the assembly on his own but did need a little help getting the wires to stay put. Just be warned you’ll probably have an alarm going off quite often, hiding around the house in different places for the first few hours haha
